Vanessa Inkamala 'Homeless on my homeland' Tote
This tote bag represents a tangible collaboration involving renowned artists Tony Albert, Vanessa Inkamala, and the Iltja Ntjarra Art Centre. One side bears the impactful artwork “Homeless on my homeland,” part of a series of 14 bags commissioned for the 2020 Biennale of Sydney to make a bold statement on precarity, homelessness, and Indigenous land justice. On the reverse side, “before and after,” originally an etching created in collaboration with Cicada Press and Tony Albert in 2016, has been revised for this tote bag, unfolding a visual narrative portraying the environmental consequences of corporate exploitation of natural resources.
Despite the profound messages conveyed, there is a subtle irony in utilising consumer goods to critique the very consumerism and corporate culture depicted within the artworks. This juxtaposition serves to emphasise the complexities of contemporary activism and underscores the multifaceted role of art as a catalyst for societal change.

Iltja Ntjarra (Many Hands) Art Centre is proudly Aboriginal owned and directed. It is the home of the Namatjira watercolour artists. The art centre has a special focus on supporting the ‘Hermannsburg School’ style watercolour artists, who continue to paint in the tradition of their grandfather and relative, Albert Namatjira, arguably one of Australia’s most famous artists of the 20th century.
Albert Namatjira taught his children to follow in his unique style, who have since passed this knowledge on to their children, which has resonated in a legacy of watercolour artists in the Central Desert region. By continuing his legacy, these artists sustain an important piece of living history.
Iltja Ntjarra Art Centre was established by Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation and started operating in 2004.
Here at Laundry Gallery we always endeavour to get your stunning purchases to you as quickly and safely as possible! With that in mind, please note:
1. Monday is the day we do our shipping/postage each week unless Express Shipping is requested at the time of purchase. If for some reason there is a delay and your item isn’t able to be shipped the Monday after you purchased it we will be in touch.
2. All artworks shipped from Laundry Gallery are insured and require a signature on delivery. A tracking number is be provided as part of our shipping process to the contact details you provide.
3. Whilst we use Australia Post services where possible, for large, heavy or high value artworks we use a third party courier service. We will advise you of this at the time of purchase, or get in touch as soon as possible if on reflection using a courier seems more appropriate for your artwork. Once we have organised a quote it will be the courier who gets in touch to organise delivery times closer to the date, but we are always here to support you throughout the process!
4. If the artwork you have purchased is part of a current or future Laundry Gallery exhibition, we will need to wait until after the exhibition period has ended before we can send the artwork to you.
5. International Customers are currently unable to make a purchase online however we do ship worldwide. Please contact us for an invoice and to arrange a shipping quote.
