Ken Wayne Kantilla works at Ngaruwanajirri Art Centre and is the current Chairman. He produces delicately executed works on paper with painstaking skill as well as paintings on canvas, ironwood carvings, and natural ochres on shells. In the 1980s Ken Wayne lived for two years in Victoria, attending St Bede`s College, Mentone. Ken has been included in major Ngaruwanajirri exhibitions since 1996, including Pupini Yinkiti Arimuwu Kapi Winga, Good Food, Sea Food, an ArtBack Nets Travelling Exhibition, 2000 - 2004. Ken Wayne has a keen interest in Australian rules football, due to the success of his father David Kantilla, a South Australian player in the 1960s. His extreme patience is reflected in the painstakingly careful geometry of his paintings. He is regularly shown in the annual Darwin Ngaruwanajirri Exhibition at the time of the Darwin Festival and in Tarnathi Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art, Art Gallery of South Australia. Ken Wayne's artwork is characterized by his exceptional skill of painting straight lines by hand. These lines create a rippled rhythm within his paintings often accentuated by depictions of daily Tiwi life including animals and cultural objects. Although his lines are robotically precise, the slight irregularity in his initial drawing reveals the unaided touch of his work. Ken's unique style is enhanced by his exclusive use of natural Tiwi ochres. His meticulous attention to detail and unwavering dedication to his craft has earned him a well-deserved reputation as a skilled and respected artist in the community. Ken's artwork has been showcased in galleries and exhibitions across Australia


Ngaruwanajirri Incorporated is an arts centre at Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island. Ngaruwanajirri, which means ‘helping one another’ in Tiwi, was established in 1994. It was originally set up for disabled Tiwi residents but now includes all artists, with the original artists working with traditional wood carvers. Art created includes natural ochre paintings on paper and canvas, batik on silk, lino prints on paper and fabric and ironwood carvings. Many paintings and carvings from Ngaruwanajirri, including tutini poles for Pukumani ceremonies, have been exhibited in Darwin, interstate and overseas. Works reside in private collections and art galleries both nationally and internationally.

1. Monday is the day we do our shipping/postage each week unless Express Shipping is requested at the time of purchase. If for some reason there is a delay and your item isn’t able to be shipped the Monday after you purchased it we will be in touch.

2. All artworks shipped from Laundry Gallery are insured and require a signature on delivery. A tracking number is be provided as part of our shipping process to the contact details you provide.

3. Whilst we use Australia Post services where possible, for large, heavy or high value artworks we use a third party courier service. We will advise you of this at the time of purchase, or get in touch as soon as possible if on reflection using a courier seems more appropriate for your artwork. Once we have organised a quote it will be the courier who gets in touch to organise delivery times closer to the date, but we are always here to support you throughout the process! 

4. If the artwork you have purchased is part of a current or future Laundry Gallery exhibition, we will need to wait until after the exhibition period has ended before we can send the artwork to you.

5. International Customers are currently unable to make a purchase online however we do ship worldwide. Please contact us for an invoice and to arrange a shipping quote.
